My recruiter told me to "fake it till you make it" and I bombed the SQL screen in Seattle

She insisted I just wing the technical round after a 2 week gap in practice, but the interviewer grilled me on window functions and I froze for a solid 15 minutes, has anyone else gotten this kind of advice from a staffing agency and ended up worse off?

Fake it till you make it" only works if you actually faked the prep work too. Two weeks off is plenty if you crammed the right stuff, but nobody wings window functions cold. That's like showing up to a marathon without running for a month. Recruiters always say that, but they're not the ones sitting in the hot seat. Next time, just tell them you need a few days repping the basics, even if it pushes the interview back. Better to look slow than stupid in front of the hiring manager.
