Used to write every cheque by hand, now I can't remember the last time I did
Back in 2013 I'd sit down every Sunday with my chequebook and pay rent, hydro, all of it. Now I just tap my phone and the money's gone before I even blink, and honestly I kind of miss the ritual of seeing the balance drop on paper. Anyone else feel like they've got less control over their money since everything went automatic?

Set aside one morning a month to do a quick money check on paper. Write down your account balances, your bills, and what you spent that month. Then rip it up or file it. It sounds dumb but it gives you that same feeling of control, like you actually did something instead of just watching numbers disappear. I still pay everything online but I keep a little notebook and I jot down big purchases when they happen. Takes two minutes. You get the ritual without the struggle of writing out forty cheques. Money feels more real when you see it on paper, even if the bank does all the work now.

Friend tried this, swore it fixed his spending. Shoulda charged him rent for the notebook space.
