The $40 tarp that ended my expensive tent habit

Last month I took my $300 tent to Dolly Sods and woke up soaked from condensation, then a guy camped next to me with a plain blue tarp stayed bone dry. He showed me how he pitches it low and angled with the wind, and honestly the physics made more sense than any fancy fabric talk. Has anyone else gone back to basic tarps after a pricey shelter let them down?
