Aerial drop cable snapped mid-install in Austin, almost took out a power line
Was pulling a new drop across a backyard last Thursday when the messenger wire gave out at the pole clamp. The cable whipped down and swung within a foot of the 240v service entrance, scared the crap out of me. I had to call the utility to shut it off before I could even touch anything, that ate 2 hours of my day. Turns out the previous installer used a zip tie instead of a proper lashing strap, that thing was dry rotted. Anyone else run into sketchy old hardware on refit jobs, and do you carry spare straps for this exact situation?
