Spent 2 hours shimming a cabinet run before I figured out the real problem was my level
I was hanging uppers in a kitchen in Boise last week and nothing lined up right. I kept shimming and shimming, chasing a gap that just moved around on me. Finally pulled out my 4 foot Stabila and checked it against my old 2 foot torpedo level. The torpedo was off by almost a quarter inch over its length. I had been trusting that little thing for probably 6 years on every single install. Swapped to the 4 foot for everything, checked the wall first instead of the cabinets, and the whole run went up flat in 40 minutes. The level is the one tool you never think to check because why would a level lie to you. Now I check mine against a known flat surface every few months. Anyone else ever catch a level drifting on them, or am I the only one who trusted a cheap one for way too long?
