I finally tried a 3/4 inch spiral upcut bit on some curly maple and it changed my game
Last month I was working on a set of kitchen doors in my shop in Bellingham and my usual straight bit was burning the wood no matter how slow I fed it. My buddy Mike told me to grab a spiral upcut bit, so I picked up a Freud one. The cut was so clean and the chips cleared out perfectly, no burning at all. Anyone have a favorite brand for these bits, or is there a specific feed rate you use for really figured wood?

I've had great results with Whiteside bits on tricky grain.

Come on, it's just wood. Linda_dixon49, I've used a cheap big box store bit on walnut burl and it was fine. People make this stuff way too complicated.

Honestly saw a video where a guy said to run your router a bit faster than you think with figured wood. Tbh it helps the bit slice instead of rub. Ngl I stick with Freud too, their bits just seem to last longer in my experience.
