Appreciation post: the friend who made me pick a side in 2021 was never really a friend

I had a buddy from my Denver days, we hung out every week for six years, and when him and his wife split he wanted me to stop being cool with her. I told him I wasn't going to trash someone who never did anything to me, and he hung up and never called back. What bugs me is people acting like cutting someone off is always this big brave thing when half the time it's just someone demanding you prove your loyalty. It took me about 2 weeks to stop feeling bad about it, mostly because my other friends told me he'd pulled the same thing on them. Did anyone else cut someone off not because of a fight but because they made you choose?
