My cousin swears by cash envelopes but after 4 months of tracking every dollar in a $1 notebook from Dollar Tree, I'm never going back to pulling bills out at the register
Three months ago in Sacramento I switched from envelopes to just writing down what I spend in a cheap notebook, and I finally stopped lying to myself about where my money goes because the envelope method let me "borrow" from the grocery stash whenever I wanted, so has anyone else ditched envelopes for plain old pen and paper?

Wait, a $1 notebook from Dollar Tree? That's wild that something so cheap worked better than a whole system with actual cash. The borrowing from the grocery stash part got me, since that's basically the whole reason envelopes fail for most people.
