Warped boards after a humid week in Portland, ruined my whole batch
I stored 12 finished journals in my garage during that rain streak last Tuesday and by Friday the covers had bowed so bad they wouldn't close flat. I tried stacking them under weights for 48 hours but the glue joints already shifted, so now I'm looking at redoing the covers entirely. Has anyone had luck using a dehumidifier in their workspace during wet spells, or is this just a lost cause with book board?
That bit about the glue joints shifting hits home. I had almost the exact same thing happen with a batch of 15 last fall here in the PNW, the covers curled up like potato chips and once the spine glue let go there was no saving them. Stacking under weights did nothing for me either, it just flattened them while the boards were still wet and they bowed right back the next day. A dehumidifier helps a lot going forward but it won't rescue boards that already warped, so plan on new covers and keep the dehumidifier running before you even glue up next time.
