Old foreman told me my dimes were too cold on a big tank job in Baton Rouge

He said I was running my wire too slow and piling up metal instead of fusing it. I bumped up my amps by 15 and shortened my arc length, and the difference in weld profile was night and day. Has anyone else gotten feedback that made you totally rethink your technique?

Old foremen usually know their stuff because they've burned through enough rod to see it all. Small tweaks like arc length or wire speed can fix a weld that looks like crap, just like tiny adjustments in life can turn a bad day around. That's the thing about experience, it teaches you that most problems come down to one little thing you're doing wrong.

...wait, I mean, you're telling me that whole life lesson thing was just from watching some old guy fiddle with his welder? Idk, that kinda blows my mind a little. Like, he's comparing fixing a birdshit weld on a truck frame to turning a bad day around? That's some next level metaphor right there. I half expect him to say the secret to happiness is just a tiny tweak to your wire feed speed or something. Maybe it's just me but that seems like a lot of pressure to put on a Lincoln welder.

Nah, sometimes a bad weld is just a bad weld.
