The $150 water testing kit that proved my tap water was wrecking my skin and hair

I spent years buying expensive shampoos and face washes trying to fix breakouts and dry patches. Turned out my tap water pH was sitting at 8.5 and the chlorine levels were way higher than they should be. Dropped $150 on a simple water testing kit from a hardware store and felt like an idiot after seeing the results. Installed a basic $40 shower filter and my skin cleared up inside two weeks. The hair issues took about a month but the frizz finally calmed down. Makes me wonder how many other people are throwing money at products when the real problem is coming out of the faucet. Has anyone else tested their water and found something similar?

Ran a test on my own tap water after my neighbor mentioned her tomato plants were looking sad. Found out our water was so hard it was basically liquid rock. My showerhead had this crusty white buildup I'd been ignoring for months. Scrubbed it with vinegar and threw on one of those cheap inline filters. Noticed my hands stopped cracking and bleeding after washing them. Still using the same drugstore shampoo I always did, but now my hair doesn't feel like straw. The whole thing cost me maybe 50 bucks total. Makes you wonder what else we just accept as normal.
