Why does everyone pretend a 45 hour work week is normal now

I tracked my hours for 3 weeks straight and averaged 47 a week, and the only person who said that was too much was my dentist. My buddy in Denver works 50 plus and calls it 'just busy season' even though it's been busy season since January. When did we all agree that this is fine?
