Shoutout to the guy at the Rockford tire shop who told me to rotate and balance, not replace
My rear tires were cupping bad at 28,000 miles and the first place in Rockford quoted me $640 for a new set without even putting it on a lift. The second guy, older, quiet, walked out with a tread gauge, checked all four, and said the tires had plenty of life left, the problem was I hadn't rotated them in 14 months. $60 for a rotate and balance and the cupping smoothed out within a couple hundred miles. I keep thinking about how easy it would've been to just nod at the first quote. How do you tell the difference between a shop being honest and a shop being lazy?
