Hot take: the loudest mourners at a funeral are often the ones who ignored the person in life

I stood at a service in Cleveland last month and heard a guy give a tearful speech about how close he was to my uncle, but I know for a fact he hadn't called or visited in 4 years, so is a public performance of grief more about the audience than the dead, or am I being too harsh on people who process regret differently?
