Can we talk about how I gave a slow show 4 full episodes and it turned into my favorite thing this year?
Six weeks ago I started a show that everyone kept telling me to watch, and I almost quit after the first episode because it felt so slow I kept checking how much time was left. My rule used to be three episodes and done, but this one had such a weird, quiet pilot that I gave it four. By the end of episode four something clicked and I ended up finishing all 8 episodes of season one in two nights, staying up past 1am on a work night which I never do. What got me was that the show wasn't hiding a big twist, it was just building characters so slowly that by the time stuff actually happened I cared way more than I would have if they'd rushed it. Now I keep wondering how many good shows I bailed on too early just because the first hour didn't grab me. Has anyone else had a show that took four or five episodes to hook you, and did you stick with it or drop it?
