Burned 16 hours on a show that got canceled after one season

I finally caved and watched a Netflix drama everyone kept hyping up, put in 16 hours over 4 days, only to find out it got axed with a cliffhanger ending. The worst part is the season finale literally says 'to be continued' and now it never will be. I checked the streaming app and they dont even label it as canceled, you just have to dig through news articles to find out. Has anyone else sunk serious time into a show that ended on a cliffhanger, and do you still recommend it to people or warn them away?
