Binge watching with subtitles on changed how I hear dialogue

I watched The Wire for the 3rd time last month and only then realized I'd been missing half the street slang for years because I always had it on in the background, so now I put subs on every new show and it's like a whole different layer, has anyone else found that captions ruin or fix a show for them?

dude this is exactly what happened to me with Peaky Blinders, I watched the whole first season without subs and thought the accents were just mumbling, then I turned them on and realized half the plot was about stuff I totally missed, it felt like a whole new show lol, now I basically can't watch anything without captions or I get paranoid I'm missing all the good stuff, even comedies hit different when you catch every line
