TIL I was installing derailleur cables wrong for 2 years, a Shimano tech in Denver set me straight

I always clamped the cable under the bolt with the housing ferrule touching the stop, but after constant ghost shifting on a 9 speed build, a mechanic pointed out the cable needs to sit in the groove first, not just get crushed flat, so my question is how many of you actually check that little alignment before snugging it down?
