Smiled through my mom's 60th dinner while my car got towed, do I tell her now or never?
My mom turned 60 two weeks ago and I drove 3 hours to her party in Sacramento, and right as the cake came out I saw a tow truck dragging my car off the block. I stood there smiling in every group photo because she has been through a rough year and I did not want one second of that night to be about me, so I just kept passing plates and laughing. The thing is, part of me thinks faking that happy face was the right call, because her night was perfect and nobody needed my mess. But the other part keeps wondering if hiding stuff like this is why I feel like a stranger at my own family dinners. Do you tell the truth after the fact and risk making her feel guilty, or just let it stay buried?
