Was sure handwritten letters were dead until my grandma wrote me one last year

I always thought cards and letters were just old people stuff. But after my grandma passed I found a box of them in her closet. Now I write one to my nephew every month and he actually keeps them. Anyone else rediscover something they wrote off as outdated?

Started writing letters to my cousin who was away at college and honestly it was awkward at first. I kept it short, just told her about my day and asked about hers. Then she wrote back and I realized she was keeping them in a shoebox under her bed. So I stepped it up and started including little doodles in the margins and sometimes a pressed flower if I found one on a walk. She said it made her feel less lonely during finals week. Now we swap letters every couple months and it feels more real than texting somehow.

Doesn't it feel good to make someone's day with something so simple?

@lilyp37 really gets it - that shoebox detail hit me hard. Little things like that build up over time, and before you know it you got this whole real friendship happening on paper. Simple stuff really does stick with people longer than we think.
