The hot towel trick I stole from a barber in Nashville last month

I was waiting for a fade at a shop in Nashville and watched this older barber wrap a hot towel around a client's neck before the razor work. He told me it opens the skin and softens the hairline, so the shave is cleaner and the line stays sharper. I tried it on three clients this week and the difference was obvious, has anyone else been doing this and how long do you keep the towel on before you start?

I timed it with my phone on a client Tuesday, 3 minutes seems to be the sweet spot before the heat fades but the skin stays loose. What I didn't expect is how much it cuts down on razor bumps the next day, that alone sold me on it.
