My brother dared me to defend Battlefield Earth at a Thanksgiving dinner in Tulsa and I actually won
So last Thanksgiving my brother pulls out his laptop after dessert and puts on Battlefield Earth because he knows I hate it. Whole family groaning, my aunt literally left the room. But I had been prepping for this for like two weeks because he kept bringing it up, so I start making my case right there at the table with pie still on my plate. The costumes are wild, the Dutch angles are a choice, but the movie commits so hard to being weird that it kind of wraps around to fun. My uncle who never says anything about movies actually agreed with me that the first hour has this strange pull to it, like you cannot look away. By the end my brother was mad and my mom said it was the best argument she had heard at that table since my cousin defended the Dallas Cowboys in 2019. I got to skip dishes that night, so I count it as a win. Has anyone else actually turned a room around on a movie like this or am I just lucky my family is easy?
