Why does nobody warn you about cheap pavers shifting

I put down those budget pavers from the big box store last spring, cost me about $400 for a 10x12 patio area. By August the edges were already sinking and now the whole thing looks like a funhouse floor. I got quotes to fix it and the base prep alone would cost more than the pavers did. Has anyone else dealt with pavers sliding or tilting after one season, and did you end up redoing the base or just living with it?
