Can we talk about using gravel instead of pavers for a patio? I was sure it would look cheap
Six months ago I tore out a 12x14 wood deck in my backyard in Boise that was rotting through in three spots. My neighbor kept telling me to just pour a concrete slab, but I wanted something I could do myself on weekends. I went with a 4 inch layer of crushed gravel over landscape fabric for about $340 total, and I honestly expected it to look like a parking lot. Turns out the stuff packs down hard as a rock after a few rains and my patio chairs don't wobble at all. I added a steel edging border for another $60 so the gravel doesn't spill into the grass. I've had two cookouts on it now and nobody has guessed it isn't pavers. Has anyone else gone the gravel route and regretted it after a winter or two?

Mine held up fine through two Idaho winters, just top it off every spring.
