Just realized the $8 bag of mushroom compost beats everything I was doing to my lawn
I spent two summers dumping synthetic fertilizer on my Bermuda grass and it stayed patchy and sad. My neighbor Pete kept telling me to just spread a half inch of compost in spring and water deep once a week, and I figured that was too simple to work. Did it in April on a 500 square foot strip out back and by June that patch was thicker and greener than the rest of the yard. Turns out I was feeding the grass and ignoring the dirt underneath it the whole time. Anyone else made the switch or am I the last one on this train?
Did your neighbor Pete have to rub it in at all or did he just nod and go back to his mower? My buddy Dave did the same thing last year, spent a small fortune on weed and feed and his yard still looked rough, then tossed down a couple cheap bags of compost in the fall and by spring it was night and day. He was out there showing everyone his grass like a guy with a new truck. The dirt was hungry the whole time, that's all it was.
