Why does nobody talk about the Bigelow Range in Maine for a 3 day loop
I skipped the Bigelows for 6 years because everyone online pushes Katahdin and the Whites instead, and I figured anything in western Maine was just a lesser knockoff. Did the 20 mile loop over Avery Peak and West Peak last June with my brother, 4,000 feet of climb, and we saw 5 other hikers the whole weekend. The ridge walk between the two peaks is better than most of the Presi traverse and the campsite at Flagstaff Lake cost nothing. The trail is rough in spots and the fire warden cabin is closed, so bring a filter for the ponds. Anyone else skip a range for years because of hype and get proven wrong?
