He was dead serious, and it made me wonder how many planes out there got the old tighten until it feels right treatment. What is the worst shortcut you have seen someone try to get away with on a real airframe?
Been around enough hangars to know the difference between snug and torqued is huge on something like a prop hub or engine mount, but let's be real, some of these parts are way less scary than people make them out to be. I have watched a guy reuse nyloc nuts (the ones that spin on by hand and you know they are done) and swear it was fine, and that plane is still flying. The real bad ones I have seen were stuff like safety wire twisted the wrong way or a cotter pin left out because "it wasn't going anywhere." Not saying it's right, but there's a scale here and the guy in Wichita is probably not the sky-is-falling case everyone wants him to be.
