Pro tip: the guy who shipped my truck in January gave me a delivery window of 3 days, and I learned the hard way what that really means
I hired a broker back in January to move my 04 Silverado from Phoenix to Portland, paid $1,150 up front, and got a pickup date of Jan 14. The truck showed up 11 days later, not 3, and the driver kept texting me different excuses from a truck stop outside Redding. What really got me is the broker went quiet the second the carrier picked it up, so I was stuck calling some dispatch number in Oklahoma just to find out where my own truck was. I get that weather happens, but a 3 day window that turns into 11 is not weather, that is a sales pitch. My brother in law used a different outfit for his Tacoma and got real dates because he booked a carrier directly instead of a middle man. I am not saying every broker lies, but I am saying the cheap quote is cheap for a reason and you find out why at 9pm on a Saturday. So for people who have done this more than once, do you lock in the carrier name in writing before you pay, or do you just eat the deposit and hope?
