My cousin in Phoenix swore I should skip the broker and book direct, cost me $250 extra
My cousin has shipped three cars between Phoenix and Chicago so I figured he knew what he was talking about when he said brokers just mark things up and to call the trucking company myself. I booked direct in March and paid $1,150 for a trip a broker quoted me at $900. The dispatcher told me straight up that brokers move way more volume so they get better rates, which I did not want to hear after already paying. Has anyone else been talked into going direct and regretted it, or did it work out for you?
Booked direct once thinking I was some kind of smart shopper and ended up paying $200 more than the broker quote I ignored. My dumb self sat there feeling like I just got played at my own game. Turns out the big brokers book so many cars that the trucking companies give them lower rates, and us little guys calling on our own get the walk-in price. Nothing like saving money by spending more, right? Lesson learned, next time I let the broker do the haggling while I sit back and relax.
