Torque specs from a 1995 manual beat my shop app twice this month

Doing a brake job on a F-250 last week, the app said 145 ft-lbs for caliper brackets. I dug out an old paper manual from the shop library and it said 118. Double checked with the dealer and sure enough, 118 was right. Has anyone else caught their subscription app throwing out wrong numbers on older trucks?

You mentioned "digging out an old paper manual" and that's exactly the thing, the paper manuals have a way of being right because they were printed for that exact year and model, not a generic database. The apps pull from one huge pool of data and sometimes they mix up generations or just straight up have a typo that never gets fixed. I caught my app saying 35 ft-lbs for a valve cover on a 97 F-150, but the manual said 12, and when I looked at the bolt size it was obvious the app was wrong. So now I treat the app like a starting point, not the final answer, and if something feels off I always check the paper or call the dealer before I torque anything down. It's a pain, but it's cheaper than stripping a bolt or snapping a bracket.
