Tried two different ways to find a new tech job here in Austin
I spent a month just applying on LinkedIn and got maybe two calls. Then I went to three in-person meetups, like the one at the Capital Factory last week, and had five real conversations that turned into interviews. The face-to-face stuff here just works better. Anyone else find that the local scene is way more about who you know?

Wait you only got two calls from a whole month online? That's brutal. I mean it makes sense that showing up in person cuts through the noise here. The tech scene can feel like a closed club sometimes.

Yeah, I started going to those free meetups at the library. Just talked to people about what they were building. Got a referral from someone I met there, which led to an actual interview. It's all about who you bump into.

But is it really a closed club or just people being busy? Feels like a strong way to put it.
