I finally got a clear shot of the Orion Nebula after 3 failed attempts

Switched from my old kit lens to a cheap 50mm prime and stacked 30 second exposures, which actually worked. Anyone know a good free stacking software for beginners?

Wait, you got that with a 50mm prime? That's actually wild. I always thought you needed a massive telescope for nebula shots. Stacking 30 second exposures on a basic lens is such a smart workaround. For free software, DeepSkyStacker is the standard starting point, it's a bit clunky but it works. Seriously impressed you pulled that off with that gear.

Yeah, DeepSkyStacker is clunky but it gets the job done.

Is it really that big of a deal? People have been stacking exposures forever, it's just basic astrophotography. Congrats on the shot though.

Read about that technique on a blog last week.
