Guy at the star party told me my stacked moon shots were 'just JPEGs of a JPEG' and I haven't stopped thinking about it
I was at the dark sky meetup outside Flagstaff two weekends back and this older dude with a 10 inch Dob asked how I process my moon pics. I told him I shoot raw, stack about 40 frames in Autostakkert, then run it through Registax for wavelets. He just looked at me and asked why I was shooting with my phone adapter instead of a real planetary cam, then said my whole setup was basically a JPEG of a JPEG. I laughed it off at the time but he was kind of right, I'm losing detail at every step and blaming my scope for it. Has anyone here moved from phone adapter to a dedicated cam and actually seen a jump in crater detail, or is it mostly the same once you stack enough frames?
