Guy at the Denver star party told me to quit stacking 400 frames of the moon, and I finally get why
I was set up next to this older guy at a star party outside Denver two weekends ago and he watched me run 400 frames of the nearly full moon through my laptop. He leaned over and said "you are stacking trash, all that shimmer is just heat coming off the parking lot." He showed me his shot from the same night, 40 frames picked by hand, and the crater rims were twice as sharp as anything I got. I went home and culled my whole run down to 35 frames and the difference was not even close. So what are you all using to pick your best frames, do you eyeball them or run some kind of quality score?
