The $80 ground penetrating radar rental that found a cistern I'd have drilled through
Paid $80 for a weekend rental from a survey supply place in Boise and it mapped out a 19th century brick cistern under my backyard, has anyone else used one before digging a foundation for a shed or something?

That cistern find is exactly why I always tell people to rent one before any dig, even a small shed. I did a weekend rental last spring for a patio footer and found an old buried fuel oil tank that wasn't on any county map. Saved myself a nasty cleanup and a huge headache. Just make sure you grid the area and walk slow, the cheaper units get finicky if you rush them. Also, take screenshots of the screen as you go, the printout they give you can be hard to read once you're back in the sun.
