Spent 3 hours on a dead Whirlpool washer in Fresno, the fix was a $4 lid switch

Pulled the whole cabinet apart looking for a bad control board and it turned out to be the lid switch, so now I check that first before I touch anything else, does anyone keep a junker machine around just for testing parts like this?
