TIL I owe my old neighbor an apology about the fence line

I drove past my old house on Maple Street in Des Moines last weekend and noticed the neighbor's fence was leaning way into their yard. Turns out the tree I kept saying was theirs was actually on my side, and its roots had been pushing the fence for years. I thought they were just being difficult about splitting the repair cost, but they were right all along. Has anyone else realized years later they were the one in the wrong about a property dispute?

Yeah, that's a tough pill to swallow but props for owning it.

My buddy Mark went through almost the exact same thing with his small business loan last year. He took the same approach you did and it actually helped him renegotiate the terms with the bank (they gave him an extra 6 months on repayment). Might be worth looking into if the situation is still fresh, sometimes people respect that kind of honesty more than you'd expect. Just don't beat yourself up over it too much, happens to way more people than will admit it.

People respect that kind of honesty more than you'd expect" - that really hits home. It's wild how being upfront can sometimes turn things around when you least expect it. Good on you for sharing that, man.
