Paid $180 for a deep cleaner, it uncovered a $900 problem

Last month my house smelled fine but the vents felt weak. I got a cheap duct cleaning deal for $180 and figured it was a waste of money, more of a peace of mind thing. The guy ran his camera in and found a dead mouse stuck near the blower, plus about 3 inches of lint buildup. He didn't charge extra, just showed me the footage. Turned out my furnace was overheating and about to crack the heat exchanger. Replacing that would have cost me $900 plus a possible carbon monoxide risk. I almost skipped the whole appointment. Has anyone else had a random small service reveal something way worse hiding behind a normal symptom?

Realize the real issue here isnt the mouse or the lint, its that you almost skipped the check. A $180 service that catches a $900 problem plus a carbon monoxide risk is basically free insurance. Most people wait until something smells or sounds really wrong, but by then the heat exchanger might already be cracked.
