Serious question, why did the subs on One Piece go from garbage to great between episode 300 and 400?
I started One Piece back in January with the old fan subs and the timing was off by like a full second, plus they kept calling Zoro 'Zoro' and 'Zolo' in the same episode. By the time I hit Water 7 the subs were clean, timed right, and even the signs were translated, which I later learned was because the groups doing it actually got real Japanese speakers on board around 2007. Does anyone know if that was a specific group getting better or just the whole scene leveling up when streaming started paying for it?

Read somewhere that the old groups just had random fans translating, then real pros showed up.
