That time a locksmith told me my deadbolt was installed upside down 8 years ago
He pointed at the keyhole and said the pins wear out 3 times faster like that, and now I can't unsee it every time I come home, has anyone else had a random professional drop a bomb on something you thought was fine?

3 times faster feels like made up math. A locksmith once told me my lock was "wearing out unevenly" and tried to sell me a whole new set. I looked it up later and found nothing about deadbolt orientation causing that. Sounds more like a sales pitch than a real problem.

That "wearing out unevenly" line definitely sounds like a upsell. I had a similar thing happen and ended up just getting a new deadbolt on my own for like 20 bucks, problem solved.
