The self-checkout at the Kroger in Dayton flagged me twice for picking up the wrong brand
Stopped by the Kroger on Smithville Rd in Dayton last Tuesday and the self-checkout screen put a yellow box around my hands. It thought I grabbed the store brand cereal instead of the one with the tiger on it, and a voice came on asking me to wait for help. The clerk walked over, looked at the screen, laughed, and said the cameras guess at what you pick by shape now. That guess runs on a model trained on shelf photos, and it gets it wrong maybe one in five times for me. The part that stuck with me is that nobody explains the guess to you, it just sits there like a quiet accusation. Does anyone know if those camera models get better the more you shop or if it is stuck at the same error rate forever?
