Unpopular opinion: the guy who sold me panels at the supply house in Dayton changed how I do walkthroughs
I was picking up 6 keypads last Tuesday and the counter guy, Ray, asked why I always buy two extra. I told him it's just habit from getting burned on bad panels, and he said most installers he sees buy exact counts because they've never had to drive back mid-job. That hit me because I've been doing walkthroughs fast and loose for a while, just eyeballing zones instead of counting sensors against doors and windows. So I started measuring rooms and writing actual counts before I quote, and I've caught two jobs in the last two weeks where I was short a sensor. How do you all handle your walkthrough checklist, do you count every opening or just the obvious ones?
