The panel beep I ignored for 2 years finally cost me a service call
I had this DSC panel in my own house that would give one little beep every time the power flickered, even for half a second. I figured it was just the battery backup doing its thing, no big deal. Last month during that storm in Nashville, the power went out for real and the system never came back online after the restart. Turns out the beep was the transformer warning me it was failing, and I had just been silencing it with the keypad every time instead of checking the voltage. I spent my Saturday afternoon on a ladder replacing a transformer I could have swapped out in 20 minutes back in March. The worst part is I tell every customer to never ignore those chirps, and I did the exact same thing for two years. Anyone else ever catch themselves skipping the diagnosis on their own gear because it was just too familiar?
