Had to choose between two AI writing tools for client work and went with the cheap one first

I was staring at a deadline last month with 3 blog posts due for a small business client. One tool was $30 a month with fancy features like tone analysis and SEO scoring. The other was $10 a month and basically just a text generator with a good interface. I picked the cheap one because I figured I could edit the output myself. Big mistake. The cheap tool kept spitting out paragraphs that were factually wrong about local plumbing codes. I spent 2 hours fixing things instead of 30 minutes with the better tool. Has anyone else tried saving money on AI tools only to regret it due to accuracy issues?

The $10 tool probably uses a smaller language model that wasn't trained on trade-specific data, so plumbing codes and other niche stuff will always trip it up. I use a mid-range tool now that costs $20 a month and it still gets local building permit rules wrong sometimes, though way less often. You really have to check the fine print on what data the tool was trained on, because some of these budget options are just reskinned open source models from two years ago. Live and learn on this one.
