Took forever to figure out my own rent math, and I still argue with myself

I moved to Austin last fall and my landlord listed the place at $1,450 a month. But with pet rent, trash pickup, and some utility fee I still don't fully get, my actual payment comes out to $1,612. I sat down with a calculator for two hours because I kept second guessing whether I was being overcharged. Turns out the math was right, but the breakdown on the lease was so unclear that I made a spreadsheet to check it every single month. My roommate thinks I'm being paranoid, but I caught a $14 error on the water bill last month that took me three days to get refunded. Is it normal to spend more time auditing your own rent than actually working to pay it? Anyone else have a landlord who makes you feel like a math detective? I swear I spent more time on this than I did picking my actual apartment.
